DHHS Varsity Girls Soccer Heads into 2024 with a Crucial Tool: Video

A wave of graduating seniors in 2022 meant a varsity girls soccer team in 2023 with an unusually large number of freshmen on the field.

“We had to get used to playing together,” said Sidney Cohen, a senior and co-captain of this year’s team. “But by the end of the season, we had formed a strong bond.”

The team usually struggles toward the end of the season, when they face the strongest teams, but last season the team played well and reached the playoffs.

Sidney attributes their success to team-building activities, working hard during practices, and getting to know each other off the field. The team also benefited from a VEO camera, paid for by the Druid Hills Athletics Association, that allowed them to review film from their games and get advice from their coach on how to improve.

“That was a good investment for all the teams,” Sidney said. “Seeing how you play on the field  helps you understand the game better. It also helps with recruiting, because you can put together a highlight reel.”

Sidney’s experience on the DHHS soccer team reinforced her love of the game she has played all her life. She hopes to play intramural soccer in college and continue to play soccer into adulthood.

Coach Kai Uchimura is looking forward to another great season in 2024. “The future is bright for this program.”
