Spotlight on The Spotlight, DHHS's Student-Created Print Newspaper

When you Rally for the Red Devils, your donation supports journalism at Druid Hills High School.

The Spotlight, published six times per year, is DHHS’s 87-year-old student-created print newspaper. It is the oldest student newspaper in DeKalb County and among the oldest in the nation. The Spotlight reports the stories that matter most to students, parents, teachers, and community members. In the past few years, our student journalists have won a “superior” ranking and other top honors from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association.

The October 2024 issue of The Spotlight tackles a huge range of subjects, from hot topics around school to statewide educational issues and national events. The front page features articles on gun violence protests and the ongoing school modernization negotiations. Inside are 20 pages of features, including a welcome to our new principal, a discussion about DHHS’s new cell phone policy, a profile of the captain of the girls’ volleyball team, and a breakdown of the latest season of Love Island.

Listen to MC MacKenna, DHHS student journalist, sharing her thoughts on the importance of journalism.

The Druid Hills Education Foundation helps to fund the DHHS PTO, which assists with The Spotlight’s printing costs. Please donate to DHEF and help our student journalists publish the news our community needs.

The PTO also supports funding for important events like Hospitality and Teacher Appreciation, IB Teacher Training, and the Prom!
